A Siphonic Toilet Has About The Best Flush That You Can Get From A Close Coupled Installation.
The trouble with them is that they are rarely fit correctly. The tricky part is the Air Extractor or 'Siphonic Bomb'. This is a plastic device with a domed rubber washer on the end which initiates the vacuum process, and this is often not fit correctly. The main symptoms of this are that the lever handle needs to be pressed several times for a flush to begin, and when the flush does happed the pan fills with water and takes a long time for the water level to drop.
The above schematic shows the correct positioning of the apparatus. The plastic straw like tube should fit inside the corresponding hole in the toilet pan, and the domed rubber washer should press tightly around it, forming a snug fit on the ceramic of the toilet pan.
Syphonic Toilets Were Popular In The 1970s & 1980s. They are generally discontinued in the UK in favour of regular 'P trap' close coupled toilets, and more latterly the dual flush push button installations, which often require a larger siphon diameter.
